ShoCard and RF IDeas Debut Blockchain Technology-Enabled Mobile Credential Reader Solution

The collaboration marks ShoCard’s entry into the healthcare industry, debuting first-of-its-kind enterprise solution at HIMSS

LAS VEGAS, March 05, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ShoCard, a blockchain-based identity management ecosystem, together with RF IDeas, Inc., a leading innovator and manufacturer of employee badge readers for in-building applications such as computer access, identification and secure print, will demonstrate the first mobile credential reader solution using the blockchain. The patented ShoCard™ identity management (IM) solution for enterprises, ShoBadge©, which will be demonstrated in the Innovation Live exhibit at HIMSS 2018, uses RF IDeas’ pcProx® Plus BLE dual-frequency reader to allow healthcare providers to meet healthcare security compliance guidelines through blockchain technology.

Blockchain technology represents the next wave for secure exchange of information, providing a basis for trusted, verifiable sharing of ID credentials. Data stored on the blockchain is immutable and public, and therefore cannot be hacked, modified or deleted. With ShoCard’s solution, no personally identifiable information (PII) ever is stored on the blockchain, but rather the one-way digital signatures of hashes of data that verify the information.

Leveraging existing RF IDeas readers with Bluetooth® low energy technology, the ShoBadge© solution ensures there is no tampering of a user’s identity, and prevents against “middle man” attacks. ShoBadge© uses standards such as security assertion markup language (SAML) and OpenID Connect to integrate with existing single sign-on (SSO) applications. There is no need to change any access management solutions to leverage ShoCard’s blockchain-based solution, allowing the existing SSO solution with RF IDeas readers to continue to work in the blockchain.

Benefits

  • More secure authentication than traditional providers / backed by the blockchain
  • Works with both ID badges and mobile devices
  • Leverages existing pcProx® Plus BLE readers and employee badges
  • Seamless user access, eliminating the need for manual entry of usernames and passwords
  • Patented solution provides user access with up to five security factors for authentication
  • No central database to hack or breach
  • Works seamlessly with existing SSOs

“Combining RF IDeas’ pcProx Plus BLE dual-frequency reader and ShoBadge's reputation of leadership in the blockchain, we're showing how the next generation of authentication can be made to work in the world of healthcare," said Tim Collins, Chief Technology Officer, RF IDeas. "This technology will not only simplify the authentication process for busy healthcare providers, but also will increase security across the board."

"By collaborating with RF IDeas to create a mobile credential authentication solution using the blockchain, we have the opportunity to showcase ShoBadge’s unique ability to enhance enterprise security, where employees, contractors, and visitors experience easier access to enterprise resources-- such as computers and IoT devices, while their data is kept private and secure,” said Armin Ebrahimi, founder and CEO of ShoCard.  “This makes the process convenient and more secure for medical professionals, especially those who work in multiple hospital facilities and can benefit from a single mobile identity that is verifiable using the blockchain in a network."

ShoCard recently announced its ICO for its cryptocurrency ShoCoin (SHO). ShoCoin allows compensation for sharing of identity data between different parties and service providers, which helps lower friction and open up new venues of data sharing between disparate parties while allowing individuals to share in the compensation-economy related to their information. Qualified investors, as defined under Regulation D under the U.S. Securities Act of 1933, can learn more about how to invest in ShoCoins during its public presale, which is taking place from now until the crowdsale begins on April 16, at  https://shocard.com/tokensale.
