PayByPhone Reaches Record Growth in 2017

More drivers are using the mobile parking app around the world


VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Jan. 31, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- PayByPhone, the world’s largest mobile parking payment provider, has reached another achievement, processing over $345.6M USD in annual transactions throughout 2017. The app now serves 17M registered users in over 300 cities globally.

After being purchased by Volkswagen Financial Services (VWFS) at the end of 2016, this milestone accompanies an eventful year for PayByPhone. This includes their largest app release in November 2017, which highlighted new features such as the ability to save ‘favorite’ parking locations, and allowing drivers to park with the app without the need to register - an industry first. These innovations, along with year-round customer-facing app education, supported a 31% increase in app downloads between 2016 and 2017.

The performance of both PayByPhone’s new and existing clients has also yielded impressive results. Over 47 new clients launched throughout the last twelve months, including the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, which reached a 75% adoption after three months, making them the highest transacting UK client, with over 300,000 monthly payments. Long-standing clients in metropolitan areas such as Miami and Seattle also reached new heights, with the Miami Parking Authority’s locations peaking at 530,095 transactions during December, and the cumulative effects of customer outreach campaigns increasing transactions by more than 55% in Seattle throughout the year.

Other clients utilized PayByPhone to help completely revamp parking in their jurisdictions. For example, the London Borough of Haringey removed all 450 on-street payment meters, a bold move which reduces infrastructure costs and provides a cashless, seamless experience for drivers.
