Online Educational Program Will Address Impact of Tax Reform Bills on Health Care

Washington, D.C., Nov. 20, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The impacts of the House and Senate tax reform bills on 501(c)(3) hospitals and health systems and other tax-exempt organizations will be explored in a November 28 webinar to be presented by the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).  During the online program, Jason P. Lacey, Partner, Foulston Siefkin, LLP, and Meghan McKernan, Shareholder, Gilmore & Bell, P.C., experts from the American Bar Association’s Health Law Section, will share their insights on “Tax Reform: What Could It Mean for Your Organization?”

“If either of these bills are enacted into law, there would be a significant financial impact on tax-exempt healthcare organizations,” said HFMA President and CEO Joseph J. Fifer, FHFMA, CPA. “Healthcare leaders should get up to speed on these fast-breaking legislative developments now. Effects could start to hit by the end of this calendar year.”

Provisions of the bills that will be addressed during the webinar include proposed repeal of the tax exemption for hospital private activity and advance refunding bonds, an excise tax on certain levels and forms of executive compensation, and changes in the deductibility of various employee benefits. Speakers will also discuss the prospects for passage of tax reform, impacts on healthcare organizations, and steps organizations should take now to prepare for potential passage of the legislation.

The webinar is designed for healthcare CEOs, chief financial officers, and other senior financial executives. It is approved for 1.0 hour of Continuing Professional Education credit. For more information, or to register for the webinar, which is scheduled for 2:00-3:00 p.m., CST, Tuesday, November 28, visit hfma.org/webinars
