Media Advisory: MADD Canada and NLC Present a Long Weekend Students Will Never Forget

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 24, 2012) - Young Brian Martin is excited. The long weekend is here and he's heading off to the family cottage for a getaway with girlfriend Jessica, best friend Raj and big brother Malcolm. As they pack into the car and hit the road, no one foresees how their actions will lead to devastation.

So begins Long Weekend, MADD Canada's latest School Assembly Program. High school students who see the show get a first-hand look at how bad decisions around drinking, drugs and driving can take a weekend from fun to tragic in mere seconds.

This week, MADD Canada and Provincial Sponsor, Newfoundland Labrador Liquor Corporation (NLC), are hosting a special screening for students at St. Kevin's High School to highlight Long Weekend's tour of high schools throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. As a Provincial Sponsor, NLC is sponsoring 25 presentations throughout the province.

Media are welcome to attend the launch and speak with special guests, students and school staff.

Date & Time: September 26th at 1:20 p.m.
Location: St. Kevin's High School
435 Back Line Road, Goulds, NL A1S 1G6
Special Guests: David Frew, Vice-President, Human Resources, Newfoundland Labrador Liquor Corporation
Andrew Murie, Chief Executive Officer, MADD Canada

Teens and young adults are at significantly increased risk for impaired driving crashes. Using dramatizations and testimonials from real-life victims of impaired driving, MADD Canada's School Assembly Program packs a hard punch designed to get students' attention and drive home the message that it is never okay to mix alcohol and/or drugs with driving. This school year, across Canada more than one million students will see Long Weekend, and the French program titled Dommages.
