Sapphire Balls and Ruby Balls From Meller Optics Come in Tiny Precision Sizes

PROVIDENCE, RI--(Marketwire - Jun 8, 2011) - Meller Optics, Inc. has introduced a full line of highly durable miniature precision sapphire and ruby balls that are second only to diamond in terms of hardness and are impervious to most chemicals and heat.

Meller Sapphire and Ruby Balls are offered in 42 inch and metric sizes from 0.1mm to 0.5" dia. and provide superior wear resistance. Featuring Moh 9 hardness (Knoop 1800 perpendicular to the C-axis and 2200 parallel to the C), these sapphire balls and ruby balls have surface finishes of 20-10 scratch-dig or better, can be precision ground into plano-convex lenses and drilled if required.

Impervious to most chemicals, solvents, and detergents, Meller Sapphire and Ruby Balls have a 2,000°C melting point. These tiny precision balls are well suited for use in medical and chemical pumps as check and metering valves, and as ball and roller bearings, stylus tips, and endoscope lenses.

Meller Sapphire and Ruby Balls are priced according to material, size, and quantity; delivered from stock. Samples and price quotations are available upon request.
