Artists From Naxos of Canada Family of Distributed Labels Are Honoured With Ten JUNO Award Nominations

Awards Will Be Broadcast on Sunday, March 27 on CTV From the Air Canada Centre in Toronto


TORONTO--(Marketwire - February 7, 2011) - The nominations for the 2011 JUNO Awards were announced by The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) on February 1, 2011. Among the nominees are artists from the Naxos of Canada distributed labels ATMA Classique, Centrediscs, and Naxos.

Naxos' ground-breaking video and audio project "The Virtual Haydn" garnered a nomination for "Music DVD of the Year". The four Blu-ray Disc set includes recordings by pianist Tom Beghin of the complete solo keyboard works of Joseph Haydn in nine virtual reconstructions of rooms in which these pieces would have been originally performed, using seven specifically crafted historical keyboards. A three-hour "making of" documentary is also featured.

Artists from five ATMA Classique recordings picked up nominations across all of the Classical categories. The Amici Ensemble has been honoured for its recording "Armenian Chamber Music" in the "Classical Album of the Year - Solo or Chamber Ensemble" category. Following last year's nomination for her "Porpora Arias" recording on ATMA Classique, Soprano Karina Gauvin has been nominated this year for her "Britten - Les Illuminations" in the category of "Classical Album of the Year: Vocal or Choral Performance" along with the Vancouver-based vocal chamber ensemble musica intima for their recording, "Into Light". In the "Classical Album of the Year: Large Ensemble or Soloist(s) with Large Ensemble" category, artists Janina Fialkowska and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra conducted by Bramwell Tovey were nominated for "Chopin Piano Concertos" and Les Violons du Roy under Bernard Labadie earned a nomination for "Bonbons".

Three Canadian composers took home nominations in the category of "Classical Composition of the Year" for their works on Centrediscs albums. Clark Ross was nominated for his composition "Last Dance", Larysa Kuzmenko for her "Piano Concerto", and R. Murray Schafer for "Duo for Violin and Piano". Additionally, composer Jocelyn Morlock was nominated for her work "Exaudi" which appears on the ATMA Classique recording "Into Light".
