350 years ago, Georg Camitz started iron production by the river Letälven in Degerfors, Sweden. That was the foundation of the ironworks that during the centuries has had great impact on the community of Degerfors.
In the 1970s, the production of stainless steel was started. Today, there are three Outokumpu units in Degerfors and about 550 people are employed.
Beside the state of the art dispatch hall that was inaugurated a year ago, Outokumpu is now investing 104 million euro in the production of special grade quarto plate in Degerfors.
"We have a long tradition of making steel and a modern production that we now are investing in further. The work is ongoing at full speed and the investment will give us a more efficient production, higher product quality and a better working environment. We are very happy about this and are positive about the future", says Leif Rosén who is heading Business unit Special Coil & Plate.
Outokumpu in Degerfors is the global market leader in quarto plate, the speciality is duplex special grades. Stainless steel from Degerfors can be found in desalination plants in the Arabic desert, in tankers shipping juice, as well as in spectacular bridges in Spain and Hong Kong.
