YIT CORPORATION PRESS RELEASE JUNE 4, 2010 at 10:30 YIT AND VLL CONTINUE CO-OPERATION IN MAKING PROPERTIES MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT VLL (Västerbotten County Council) has placed its trust in YIT to carry out the measures to secure energy savings. The assignment signed by YIT and VLL is worth more than SEK 53 million (approximately EUR 5.5 million) with an option for maintenance, and will continue until September 2016. The project entails measures in all properties owned by VLL, including the hospitals in Skellefteå, Lycksele and Umeå, as well as most buildings for primary health and medical care, and other operations where the potential for profitable energy savings have been discovered. In 2008, YIT received an EPC (Energy Performance Contracting) assignment to inventory all properties owned by VLL. "The total property area is 485,000 square metres and we calculate savings after implementation of the measures of approximately 10,500 MWh/year or SEK 5.3 million (EUR 0.5 million) for Västerbotten County Council," says Anders Genhammar, who heads the unit for energy and the environment at YIT Sverige AB. During phase 2 YIT will also train the county's employees in the technology used and in finding energy-efficient solutions themselves. "The project is in line with the environmental goals set by the county council," says Genhammar. He continues, "The already low consumption of energy will further decrease to levels that are among the lowest in Sweden. Through the project, the county council will obtain new technology and a strong training package. The collaboration is long-term and will hopefully convince other property owners to invest in energy efficiency."
