Illustrious Career of Georgia's Former Mayor is Back in Print -- Floyd Griffin Jr.'s Autobiographical Book is Re-Published Through Xlibris

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga., Nov. 10, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Celebrating an illustrious path in various careers, author Floyd L. Griffin, Jr. shares the substantial and momentous events in his life that molded him into the respectable person he is today. Coming back to the spotlight through Xlibris, Legacy to Legend: Winners Make It Happen is Griffin's autobiographical book that reflects one man's quest for knowledge, excellence, and social change.

Throughout his life of change and challenges, Griffin has always been dedicated to public service. At different times in his life, he has been a student rights activist, cadet, Vietnam helicopter pilot, Army Colonel, football coach, professor, businessman, state senator, and mayor. In 1994, Griffin did what political experts said was impossible. He literally stormed onto the political scene and defeated an incumbent Georgia State Senator. In 1998, Griffin was candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia. His candidacy for Lieutenant Governor made him the first African American to run for that office in modern times. In 2000, he became the first African American mayor of the Old Capitol City of Milledgeville, Georgia.

In this book, the author also mentions his support and belief in President Barack Obama. "I feel that he will do great things for this nation," Griffin shares. "I met Democratic Candidate for President Senator Obama in February of 2008, at his hotel before he spoke at Harvest Cathedral Church in Macon, GA. We talked about my being the first black elected in a majority white senatorial district and mayor in a predominately white southern city. He said, 'Then you know what I'm up against,' I certainly did."

Legacy to Legend: Winners Make It Happen exemplifies the life of a man with a determined spirit. It inspires readers to aim high and reach their goals no matter what hindrances come their way. For more information on this book, log on to www.Xlibris.com.
