Telespazio Brasil Selects Gilat for 1,200-Site Broadband Satellite Communications Network to Serve Major Financial Institution

PETAH TIKVA, Israel, Sept. 9, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (Nasdaq:GILT) today announced it has been selected by Telespazio Brasil, a Finmeccanica/Thales company, to provide a 1,200-site Gilat SkyEdge II broadband satellite communications network. The network will be used by Sicredi Bank for both primary enterprise networking connectivity as well as back-up. Telespazio Brasil is one of Brazil's largest satellite service providers.

Gilat's SkyEdge II network is ideally suited to meet the mission-critical application requirements of the financial services industry such as high-speed connectivity to allow high throughput for file transfer. Other benefits include the delivery of voice-quality telephony, advanced Quality of Service (QoS) to prioritize application data traffic, reliability and high availability.

The SkyEdge II broadband satellite network will connect Sicredi Bank branches nationwide, many of which otherwise do not have access to high-speed connectivity. In areas where terrestrial networks, such as DSL and wireless, are accessible, the satellite network will provide branches with backup connectivity, ensuring high availability even in case of a failure in the wireline link.

Telespazio Brasil became a Gilat customer in 2001, when it first began using Gilat VSAT networks to power a wide variety of enterprise networking applications at nearly 1,000 sites nationwide. Gilat has a history of successfully deploying broadband satellite networks for the Brazilian financial services industry since 1999.

"Our careful evaluation of competing VSAT technologies revealed that Gilat's SkyEdge II network provides superior performance and the lowest total cost of ownership," said Marzio Laurenti, CEO of Telespazio Brasil. "We are fortunate to be able to offer this sophisticated technology to our enterprise customers, thereby helping to ensure advanced communications services as well as continuous reliability of network systems."

"Gilat's SkyEdge II is an excellent solution for the banking sector. With its high efficiency and full adaptivity, SkyEdge II gets the most out of the satellite link while providing high-speed connectivity to allow high throughput for file transfer; voice quality for telephony; and other critical services for this sector," said Russell Ribeiro, Gilat Regional Vice President, Latin America. "We are pleased to have been chosen once again to help address the communications needs of Brazil's financial sector."

Gilat's SkyEdge II is a multi-service platform enabling the delivery of high-quality voice, broadband data and video services for diverse environments including enterprises, rural networks, cellular backhaul and government network applications. SkyEdge II is a standards-based system using DVB-S2 and DVB-RCS. With better efficiencies and full adaptivity for both the inbound and outbound channels, it provides higher performance that serves the growing requirements of end-users. Gilat's diverse portfolio of SkyEdge II VSATs are all supported by a unified platform, offering service providers the most suitable product for their application needs as well as the flexibility to evolve their networks. The newest addition to Gilat's SkyEdge II portfolio is NetEdge, a dedicated solution for multi star networks, specifically designed to meet the needs of corporations and cellular backhaul applications.
