Heyman Dishes Out Coin Counseling to 'Smarties' -- Grandfather of Seven Publishes Financial Eye-Opener for Smart Teens

MONTOURSVILLE, Pa., Aug. 31, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In a Herculean effort to reverse the trend of high financial expectations in today's generation of young people, upcoming author David Heyman came up with a literary solution to educate and give the next generation perspective on economic literacy. He publishes through Xlibris What Money Is and How We Spend It? to better inform kids why they can't have everything they want.

Heyman believes today's children grow up expecting comfort and luxury in their lives. "They expect too much from their parents," he comments in his book, "...'Do you think money grows on trees?'...was a fair answer in those days but not in today's world." Indeed, in a generation where the most influential people are celebrity teens with the latest gadgets and clothes, and rap artists who drive fast cars and sport diamond-encrusted jewelry, explaining wealth and value to children will not be easy.

However, Heyman recognizes that when teens ask questions about something, they really want to know. He aims to impart his message to the "smarties," those kids who want to know. In What Money Is and How We Spend It?, Heyman relates basic economic concepts to a subject that today's teenagers will probably find easy to understand: buying a car. He creates the story around the McDevitts, discussing the monetary value system, taxation, budgeting and even federal policies over the course of the fictional family's arguments over what car to buy. As well, Heyman provides questions at the end of each chapter that will help young readers apply the concepts they will encounter.

What Money Is and How We Spend It? will be featured in the 2009 California Library Association Book Exhibit. For more information, log on to www.Xlibris.com.
