When Fate Smiles At Fate -- Q.T. Agent Finds Love and Healing Amid Secret Cold War Infiltration Mission

CORONA, Calif., Aug. 31, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A tale of love and healing juxtaposes on the high-octane action of cover infiltration missions as Robert H. Doss brings to readers the story of special agent Lafayette Freedman and his colorful life in When Fate Smiles, a new Xlibris release.

When Fate Smiles begins with the course of the latest mission of The Corporation of Quality Technicians (Q.T.'s), a special force deployed by the U.S. government to infiltrate the military and social sectors of Cuba for information on hidden chemical weaponry during the Cold War. Lafayette Freedman, or Fate, is part of the operation to remove the chemical threat and to rescue one of the team members, Matt, who also happens to be his brother.

A loose end in the mission would go unchecked, and a brief but damaging skirmish ensues between the special agents and the captive Cuban soldiers, during which Fate takes a life-threatening bullet. As he weaves in and out of wakefulness in the struggle to stay alive, the floodgates of his tightly suppressed past pry open and memories of old times and old flames come rushing into his wavering consciousness.

Thus begins Fate's journey into his past, and though unwilling to face it at first, he slowly gains perspective as things gradually fall into place. In the process, his romantic life takes a sudden, unexpected twist, forcing him to meet with love once again, the question being that if he would run away again or, like the bullet, let it hit him where it is vital.

With a skillful employ of flashbacks, Doss drills deep into the crusty shell of a hardened soldier and exposes the soft core within, all the while unfolding a heartwarming plot. With When Fate Smiles, he explores the realities of love and how the past could sneak up on a person at the least expected moment, to boldly claim a spot in the present. About the Author

After the author graduated from the Los Angeles Jr. College of Business, he found immediate success working in an office. He moved on from there to own and operate a small business and, even though he suffered through two divorces as well as the eventual demise of his company, he continued to revel in the progress of the four children that were products of his marital unions.

Still his most precious gift, the expression of his fertile imagination, through the written word, was not only being neglected, it was being totally ignored. Eventually he was inspired to fulfill the pact he made with his Maker -- vowing that if he would be blessed with recovery from a serious illness -- he would no longer waste time doing over again what he had already shown he could do well.

He still has a "day job" but acknowledges that the ecstasy that now fills his life comes from knowing he is honoring his true essence while seizing the opportunity to fulfill his life's destiny. He has been writing seriously since the mid-nineties and up to this time he's had two short stories published, but it is this novel, When Fate Smiles, that is most in keeping with the solemn promise he made to God.
