MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - July 13, 2009) - NetBase today announced that the U.S.
Army has selected the company's Content Intelligence solutions for the U.S.
Army Research Lab (ARL), which consists of over 2,500 scientists and
engineers. NetBase also announced that Rita Joseph has joined the company
in the new position of vice president of Federal Operations and General
Norwood has joined the company's Board of Advisors.
The agreement with the U.S. Army will provide Content Intelligence
capabilities for Situational Awareness to ARL scientists and engineers, and
will ultimately expand to larger user communities. According to the U.S.
Army, "Situational Awareness is the ability to generate actionable
knowledge through the use of timely and accurate information about the Army
enterprise, its processes, and external factors. The imperative to develop
actionable knowledge is a key driver of Army Business Transformation (BT)
and Continuous Process Improvement (CPI). Without Situational Awareness, BT
cannot deliver the desired outcome of increasing Army combat capability by
redirecting human and financial resources to the core war fighting
mission."(1)
NetBase's Content Intelligence platform speaks directly to this need:
helping support superior decision-making, faster. As the most comprehensive
intelligent search solution, the platform is designed to harness additional
value and insight from any content source including the Internet, premium
and enterprise content. The platform uses deep linguistic parsing to read
and understand every sentence inside billions of documents, powering
breakthrough search experiences that deliver highly relevant answers and
insights.
"Working with the U.S. Army is incredible validation for our Content
Intelligence platform. The information demands that the U.S. Army Research
Lab must address on a daily basis are staggering, and we are providing a
new breed of search that will help them find answers and insights quickly
so that they can make better informed decisions," said Jonathan Spier, CEO
of NetBase. "Because our solution can read and deeply understand content on
a massive scale, we can deliver research answers that are orders of
magnitude more relevant and valuable than past approaches."
NetBase also announced today that Rita Joseph has joined the company as its
vice president of Federal Operations. In this new role, Rita will work
closely with NetBase's newest advisor, Major General Norwood, to further
the broad adoption of NetBase Content Intelligence in the federal sector.
Rita has spent several years as Autonomy's vice president, Public Sector,
where she founded the public sector organization and grew sales to $30M a
year. She has over 25 years of experience in the federal space, most
recently with companies including Cassatt, Autonomy and Convera (formerly
Excalibur).
George W. "Nordie" Norwood, a Major General, USAF (Ret.), is the CEO and
president of Norwood & Associates, an aviation and defense consulting and
representation firm that provides technical advice and strategic planning
expertise to corporations pursuing aviation and defense related
opportunities. Nordie's military experience spanned a career of over 30
years in the U.S. Air Force. As Deputy Inspector General of the Air Force,
he developed criteria for all Field Inspections of Air Force units and
installations. He also served as the senior U.S. member of the United
Nations Command Military Armistice Commission.
