Frankfurt am Main, March 12, 2009 - The Klöckner Group did not repeat its
extraordinary result of the previous year in the 2008 financial year. As
already announced in December 2008, the difficult global economic situation
had a greater negative impact on business development than was expected.

At EUR1,054.9 million, sales were just below the previous year. The level
of incoming orders in the Group, which lay at EUR855.9 million, reflected
customers' increasing investment restraint at the end of the year.

The Group result was influenced by special effects in the 2008 financial
year. EBITDA totalled EUR38.8 million (previous year: EUR70.8 million) and
EBIT was at EUR-6.3 million (previous year: EUR52.4 million). There was a
particular negative impact from write-downs on goodwill for one foreign
company, as well as the creation of provisions for the international
activities and for risks from contract settlement. EBT fell to EUR-18.2
million (previous year: EUR56.1 million). In the 2008 financial year,
consolidated net income for the year in accordance with IFRS was EUR-35.8
million (previous year: EUR34.1 million).

Klöckner-Werke AG's net loss for the year totalled EUR2.2 million for 2008
(previous year: EUR-19.4 million). Because of the Group's impaired income
situation and Klöckner-Werke AG's negative net result for the year in line
with German commercial law, no dividend can be distributed for the 2008
financial year.

The company's complete annual financial statements are to be released on
Tuesday, March 17, 2009 and will be presented at the press conference in
Frankfurt am Main on this date.
