IIJ Launches IIJ Direct Access

     Providing a Low-Cost, Secure Remote-Access Environment Through
     Proprietary Technology That Creates a Private Connection to a
            Corporate LAN Using Existing Internet Connections

TOKYO, March 3, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ) (Nasdaq:IIJI) (TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced the late March 2009 launch of IIJ Direct Access, a remote access solution that creates a private connection to a corporate LAN using existing Internet access lines.

IIJ Direct Access is a remote-access solution that works in tandem with the remote access authentication service ID Gateway, and the high-speed mobile communications service IIJ Mobile, to create a low-cost yet secure private connection between the IIJ Mobile terminal and the ID Gateway remote access server located at the customer's premises.

IIJ Direct Access Highlights

 * Private connection using existing Internet access lines
    IIJ Direct Access uses existing Internet access lines to create a
    private connection to the corporate network. Users connect via the
    mobile network, and the ID gateway automatically assigns a private
    IP address to the mobile terminal, which means a global IP address
    is not assigned and the terminal is completely isolated from the
    Internet environment, creating secure remote access using existing
    Internet resources.

 * A low-cost, secure remote access environment
    Existing Internet access lines on the customer's premises as well
    as B FLET'S and other low-cost broadband lines can be used for IIJ
    Direct Access. This service is expected to cut costs by as much as
    50% when compared with IP-VPN and other private remote access
    services, enabling the customer to create a low-cost, secure
    remote-access environment.

 * Detailed access control and terminal authentication features
    The customer's ID gateway, which resides on the customer's
    network, provides detailed access restrictions for each user
    group. MAC address-based terminal authentication prevents access
    by unauthorized computers, such as individually owned computers.

 * Easy-to-use
    The only remote terminal settings required are those for the IIJ
    Mobile connection. No special client software is required. Users
    can establish a private connection to the corporate LAN simply by
    logging on to IIJ Mobile. Compatible lines include IIJ Mobile Type
    E and Type D (scheduled for first half of 2009) and WILLCOM lines
    (scheduled for April, 2009) acquired by the customer, as well as
    other dial-up lines that will be announced as they are added.

The emergence of 7.2 Mbps 3G/HSDPA mobile data communications has brought mobile applications to a wide range of industries and fields. While companies need to provide their employees with a variety of functions using remote access, they also are concerned about computer security and the potential for abuse through private use of mobile data communications. IIJ Direct Access can be used to create the ideal remote access environment, one that provides both security and lower costs through the creation of secure private access, while continuing to provide the convenience and speed that only mobile communications can.

IIJ seeks to provide its customers with the best network environment through mobile solutions.
