Finnair cut scheduled traffic in January

Press release
9.2.2009

Finnair's scheduled traffic capacity was cut in January by more than five per
cent. The load factor of international scheduled traffic load rose by nearly
five and a half percentage points compared with January last year. Tickets
prices, however, are low.

“The average price is still clearly below last year's level, because business
travel continues to fall,” says Finnair SVP Communications Christer Haglund.

Growth in Asian traffic has fallen to less than two per cent. The impact of the
capacity cuts in Asian traffic was nearly eight per cent. The load factor rose
in Asian traffic by nearly eight percentage points.

North American traffic grew by more than 21 per cent, influenced to a large
extent by the addition of one flight per week to New York. North American
traffic accounts for around six per cent of scheduled traffic's revenue
passenger kilometres.

Domestic traffic figures reflect planned capacity cuts; capacity was nearly
seven per cent less than last year.

Leisure traffic grew in January by nearly 16 per cent and capacity increased by
nearly 17 per cent. The leisure traffic load factor was high, 93.5 per cent.

The fall in cargo demand continues. In January more than 20 per cent less cargo
was carried.
