AAA Fuel Gauge Report for October 31, 2008

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - October 30, 2008) - Gas stations throughout Texas are reporting prices well under $2.50 per gallon, according to AAA Texas. The average price of regular unleaded gasoline fell by more than 28 cents in Texas compared to last week, pushing the state average to nearly 24 cents below the national average of $2.547.

Corpus Christi, at $2.098, has the least expensive average price as compared to other metropolitan areas in the state. Dallas is reporting a price of $2.303 a gallon, a decrease of over 30 cents since last week. In Houston gas is at $2.288, down 31 cents from last week.

All reporting areas in the state are now under $3.00 a gallon with the highest average price in El Paso at $2.717. El Paso prices fell more than 23 cents since last week.

"This free-fall in prices has picked up the pace in recent weeks. It's difficult to see when and at what level it will stop," said AAA Texas Dallas spokesperson Dan Ronan. "It certainly could be viewed as Halloween 'treat' for Texans."

Light, sweet crude oil reaching a record price of $147.27 a barrel on July 11, is currently trading around $67 to $71. Gas prices have fallen far below where they were a year ago after reaching a national peak average of $4.11 on July 17.
