Brandt Beef to Participate in Taste of Slow Food Stagecoach Days Dinner
Acclaimed Natural Beef Producer to Showcase Its Products at San Diego Food Event

BRAWLEY, CA--(Marketwire - August 21, 2008) - Brandt Beef -- The True Natural, a single
family owned, premium natural beef producer, announced today that its
products will be featured in a dinner event for the Taste of Slow Food San
Diego on Saturday, August 23 from 5 - 9 p.m. The dinner is part of
Stagecoach Days, a two-day public event celebrating the theme of the "West
on the Move."
The evening will feature an alfresco, candlelight dining experience in the
main plaza of Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. Local chefs, farmers
and purveyors will gather to prepare some of the finest slow food dishes,
inspired by the food cultures of early San Diego. Guests will sample
dishes from various themed food stations featuring seasonal organic
produce, artisan meats and cheeses, local wines and beers.
In keeping with the event theme of early San Diego, Brandt Beef's executive
chef Tom McAliney will prepare a traditional meal that will be served from
the Brandt family's authentic chuck wagon. Dry Rubbed Brandt Beef barbeque
brisket will be slow cooked over hardwood and served with kettle baked
beans cooked over an open fire and buttermilk biscuits. The traditional
grill and open fire tri-pod were both handcrafted by the artisans at the
Old Town ironsmith shop.
"We are very excited to participate in the Taste of Slow Food dinner for
the second consecutive year," said Chef McAliney. "At Brandt Beef, we are
unwavering in our commitment to environmentally sustainable practices and
are honored to be affiliated with organizations such as Slow Food that
support family farms and the preservation of cultural food traditions."
In addition to the dinner, Brandt Beef is donating cuts of its beef for
participating chefs to use in their dishes. Chef Marguerite Griska from
Starlite Lounge will prepare a dish using a Brandt Beef sustainable cut
simmered in stout with colcannon and Irish soda bread. In 2007, San Diego
Reader featured Starlite Lounge on the "best tastes of the year" list for
its Brandt Beef flat-iron, which was noted as the "best affordable steak."
Chef William Mannix from La Jolla Brew House will also use Brandt Beef's
ground beef to prepare a dish of California chili with amber ale and
poblano chiles.
The evening will also include a silent auction featuring unique
architectural elements salvaged from the restoration of the local
Cosmopolitan Hotel, formerly Casa de Bandini. Other activities include
wagon rides, games and music.
The fifth annual dinner is a collaboration of Slow Food San Diego and the
Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. Proceeds from the dinner will
benefit the projects of both organizations.
Tickets for the event cost $65 per guest and can be purchased at
