Pennsylvania State Police are Pleased After Six Months Use of TASER Devices

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., July 18, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices (ECDs) issued the following NEWS ALERT:

According to an article in the July 17, 2008 edition of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pennsylvania State are pleased with the 3,000 TASER(r) Electronic Control Devises (ECDs) that they have deployed since January 2008. In the first six months of having the ECDs, the TASER devices were used 144 times minimizing the use of chemical sprays and batons.

The article quotes Commissioner Jeffrey B. Miller saying, "In some cases, there is no doubt our troopers would have been required to grapple with the individuals, strike them with batons or fire their service weapons to protect themselves or others." He continued to say, "The TASER is an excellent alternative."

"Lives were saved. If troopers had to use sidearms, we would have had two dead suspects," said Miller.

Regarding the feedback of the TASER devices Miller stated, "The response from troopers in the field has been completely positive. One of the key reasons is that using TASERs means it's much less likely that an officer will become involved in a physical confrontation that could result in injuries to the suspect or the officer," concluded Miller.
