NASDAQ Announces Mid-month Open Short Interest Positions in NASDAQ Stocks as of Settlement Date December 14, 2007


NEW YORK, Dec. 26, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- At the end of the settlement date of December 14, 2007, short interest in 2,702 NASDAQ Global Market(sm) securities totaled 8,091,708,341 shares compared with 8,154,966,590 shares in 2,703 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of November 30, 2007. The mid-December short interest represents 3.88 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 4.07 days for the prior reporting period.

Short interest in 509 securities on The NASDAQ Capital Market(sm) totaled 188,830,968 shares at the end of the settlement date of December 14, 2007, compared with 191,482,304 shares in 507 securities for the previous reporting period. This represents 3.68 days average daily volume, compared with the previous reporting period's figure of 4.08.

In summary, short interest in all 3,211 NASDAQ(r) securities totaled 8,280,539,309 shares at the end of the December 14, 2007 settlement date, compared with 3,210 issues and 8,346,448,894 shares at the end of the previous reporting period. This is 3.88 days average daily volume, compared with an average of 4.07 days for the previous reporting period.
