MELBOURNE, Fla., Aug. 30, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Florida Gov. Charlie Crist visited Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) engineering, development and manufacturing facilities here today. During his visit, the governor toured the U.S. Air Force's E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS) test bed aircraft and received briefings on system upgrades and the Multi-Platform Radar Technology Insertion Program (MP-RTIP) sensor.

He also received information on the KC-30 Tanker program and the impact it would have on the Florida economy. Northrop Grumman's tanker program will create more than 2,000 new jobs throughout Florida if the KC-30 Tanker aircraft is selected by the U.S. Air Force. Additionally, the KC-30 Tanker program would generate economic activity in Florida nearing $100 million annually. The competition, valued at more than $40 billion, is scheduled to be decided at the end of the year.
Gov. Crist and state Sen. Mike Haridopolos addressed members of the Orlando and Melbourne press corps after the governor spoke to employees.
