FAIRFIELD, Conn., April 13, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Competitive Technologies, Inc. (AMEX:CTT) announced today that Focus Diagnostics, Inc. will be producing enterovirus assay kits under the recently expanded license granted to them for the use of the patented technology for the Rapid Assay of Human Enteroviruses (US Patent 5,075,212). The technology is the result of research by Dr. Harley A. Rotbart conducted at the University of Colorado (UC), a CTT client. The agreement provides commercialization and recurring royalty fees for both UC and CTT.

Dr. Rotbart is a Professor of Pediatrics and Microbiology at UC's Health Sciences Center, and Vice Chair of Academic Affairs. The assay detects enteroviruses, also known as poliovirus, coxsackeviruses and echoviruses, in biological tissue. These viruses are responsible for millions of infections each year, and have been implicated as possible causes in aseptic meningitis, conjunctivitis, diabetes, inflammatory muscle disease, and chronic fatigue syndrome.
