A Light in the Darkness -- Author Reveals How Jesus' Love Can Ease Life's Painful Moments

GREENVILLE, Texas, July 7, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- A severe illness can shatter one's sense of security and crumble the foundation of faith. In her new book, Faded Miracles (now available through AuthorHouse), Helen Richardson describes how her belief in God is strengthened by her struggles with serious health issues.

Ever since she was a young girl, Richardson has strived to become closer to God. Her love for family and dedication to her spirituality remain at the core of her being and shine through in this inspirational story of finding peace in the heart of darkness.

A mixture of poetry, candid reflections and inspirational Bible verses, Faded Miracles begins with Richardson's first conscious moments after surgery. As the doctors stood around her bed, Richardson remembered that Jesus had stood beside her in surgery. She writes how her amazement at his physical appearance in her time of need was replaced by a true understanding of his love for her.

Richardson then invites readers back to the beginning of her life to witness key events that shaped her religious devotion. She shares the moment she realized she loved the church, and the challenges and rewards of following a spiritual path. She takes readers through her marriage, the birth of her two sons and the many times she turned to God for guidance.

That guidance was especially needed when Richardson was diagnosed with an incurable liver disease, and just a few years later, ovarian cancer. As she battled these health problems, her spirit still soared with the love and strength she found in Christ. Though she has experienced many medical miracles, she writes how they only fade in the presence of Jesus, the true answer to life's most difficult problems.

"Peace and joy have never been stronger," Richardson writes. "God's Word is the counsel, and His truth the great physician. Hope can seem so distant, but those are not God's thoughts. Believe anyway. Experience may conflict, but keep on believing."

Richardson has taught Christian education classes to children for more than 30 years. She and her husband raised two sons, and they currently live in Texas.
