Financial Executives International Awards Scholarships to Promising Finance and Accounting College Students


LOS ANGELES, April 25, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Los Angeles chapter of Financial Executives International (FEI), recently awarded its annual scholarships to college students based in the greater Los Angeles area. FEI bases its scholarships in recognition of their academic achievements in the fields of finance and accounting, as well as personal qualities such as leadership abilities and participation in extracurricular activities.

The winners were selected from a pool of applicants who were recommended by their respective universities as being the most outstanding students in then areas of accounting or finance. These recipients are Mi Jin Gregory, accounting major from Loyola/Marymount University; Michelle Patterson, economics-accounting major from Claremont McKenna College; Jinny Shen, business administration/finance major from California State University, Los Angeles; and Henry F. Shue, business administration/accounting major also from California State University, Los Angeles.

"The FEI is privileged to continue its tradition of honoring the academic achievements and leadership talent exhibited by the best of today's finance and accounting students," said Jay Panzica, president of the Los Angeles chapter of FEI. "These young people represent the future of the accounting and financial professions. FEI members set the example by living up to the highest professional standards and awarding, encouraging and mentoring promising professionals." Each awardee receives a cash reward in addition to the recognition. The parents, guests and faculty of each scholarship winner were also invited to attend the presentation as guests of FEI.

Founded in 1931, Financial Executives International is a professional association for senior level financial executives, representing 15,000 individuals. Headquartered in Florham Park, N.J. with offices in Washington, D.C., the organization is comprised of 86 chapters across the United States and Canada and nine technical committees.

The organization's mission is to provide leadership on emerging issues concerning the financial community, personal and professional development, advocacy services and peer networking opportunities for chief financial officers, vice presidents of finance, controllers, treasurers, tax executives, and finance and accounting professors in academia. Other typical titles held by FEI members include assistant controller, subsidiary chief financial officer or controller, assistant treasurer and director of tax.

The LA chapter of FEI currently has approximately 400 members who represent a full gamut of industries including defense, entertainment, financial services, manufacturing, insurance and technology.
