Nordea Inaugurates the Vesa Vainio Professorship in Comparative Tax Law

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 24, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Nordea foundation for Vesa Vainio's professorship in comparative tax law will be inaugurated at the Helsinki University.

"The Board has decided to make a special contribution of EUR 1.5 million to finance a professorship in honour of Vesa Vainio's contribution to the creation of Nordea," said Hans Dalborg, Chairman of the Board, as he made the announcement at Nordea's Annual General Meeting on Wednesday. "With this donation Nordea wants to express its gratitude for Vesa Vainio's work in his long career both as CEO for the former Merita Bank and as member and Chairman of the Board. This professorship will enhance Nordic co-operation and will benefit Nordea and other Nordic organisations."

The Helsinki University is Finland's leading institution for research and higher education in the legal field.

The intention is to provide a guest professorship among Nordic or international researchers of international prominence within the field of comparative tax law. Research during the residency should focus on areas of importance to developments relating to international tax law, with specific focus on Nordic tax issues.
