Nokia chosen as a main supplier of broadband IP access solution to Lietuvos Telekomas - contract will bring nationwide fast Internet services to Lithuania

Nokia and Lietuvos Telekomas, the incumbent operator in Lithuania, have signed a contract for the supply of broadband DSL network solutions to deliver fast Internet services throughout Lithuania. The installations will bring high-speed nationwide Internet connectivity to Lithuania.

Nokia was chosen as a main supplier for Lietuvos Telekomas' ADSL solutions. The agreement covers the delivery of Nokia D50e DSLAM and related support services. Lietuvos Telekomas launched its ADSL service in May. Deliveries started in 2001 and are continuing in 2002.

"Last year we have launched ADSL service and we are developing rapidly in this area. Data communication and Internet services are our focus fields, and we need a trustworthy partner to collaborate with in order to provide high quality services," says Tapio Paarma, General Manager, AB Lietuvos Telekomas.

"Lietuvos Telekomas marks another new customer for the Nokia Broadband IP Access solution, which allows operators to cost-efficiently rollout initial DSL-based fast Internet service in a scalable way," says Mark Slater, Vice President Sales & Marketing, Nokia Broadband Systems.

"We look forward to helping Lietuvos Telekomas deliver reliable, robust services, beginning with fast Internet and toward rich media services," he adds.

"For Nokia this contract is an important milestone in helping to build a modern technology based infrastructure in Lithuania," says Björn Keto, Managing Director, UAB Nokia Lietuva.

The Nokia D50e is a flexible, two-stage ATM-transmission based DSLAM platform which allows operators to offer a complete range of DSL technologies, including ADSL and g.SHDSL from a single system. Working with Nokia's other IP (Internet Protocol) products, the Nokia D50e helps operators to establish an optimum DSL broadband access system, taking the broadband industry from fast Internet access to interactive media and streaming video services.

AB Lietuvos Telekomas is the largest telecommunications service company in the Baltics and, at the moment, is the only legal provider of fixed telephony services in Lithuania. Main areas of the Company's activity include fixed telephony services, network and data transmission services, Internet-related services, provision of wholesale services to other telecommunications operators and service providers as well as sales and maintenance of telecommunications equipment.
