Acceptance for Telenor's Partial Offer in DiGi


OSLO, Norway, August 13, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- As of August 11, 2001 Telenor (Nasdaq:TELN) has received sufficient acceptances on its partial tender offer in DiGi, Malaysia, to meet the minimum condition of 50 percent plus 1 share in the company. Furthermore, Telenor has received the required shareholder approval of the partial tender offer from more than 50 percent of the shares not owned by Telenor.

The offer document was issued to the DiGi shareholders on August 6 and the offer will remain open until August 27 (21 days from date of issuing). Telenor presently holds 32.9 percent of the outstanding shares in DiGi, Malaysia's third largest mobile operator with more than one million mobile subscribers by the end of March 2001. The Malaysian authorities have previously approved Telenor's request to increase its ownership in DiGi to a maximum of 61 percent.
