Nokia Announces New Enterprise Remote Office Security Appliance

(July 30, 2001) - Nokia (NYSE: NOK) today announced the availability of the new Nokia IP71 Internet security appliance specifically designed to meet the unique requirements of small and distributed office network environments. The Nokia IP71 is a purpose-built platform offering Ethernet-to-Ethernet connectivity, in a compact desktop unit, featuring Check Point(TM) Software's (NASDAQ: CHKP) VPN-1(TM)/FireWall-1® SmallOffice software pre installed in flash based ROM, to deliver a robust, locally or remotely managed and maintained security appliance. This state of the art Internet security appliance provides distributed enterprises with a simple, cost-effective means to deploy a single device offering both VPN and firewall functionality at their remote site locations.

The Nokia IP71 is the newest addition to the most comprehensive line of "Secured by Check Point" appliances in the industry. Offering both firewall and VPN capabilities, the IP71 is equipped with one 10BaseT Ethernet port for WAN connectivity, and a 4 port 10/100 switch for LAN connectivity. The Nokia IP71 combined with Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 SmallOffice software enables a powerful solution addressing the security requirements of small enterprise remote offices, including remote sales offices, retail locations and telecommuters. The IP71 is easily deployed and configured allowing customers to administer all the security devices on their network from one centralized management system, and supports 5 to 50 user licenses for Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 SmallOffice.

Unlike general-purpose solutions, the Nokia IP71 offers the unique combination of Check Point's industry leading VPN-1/FireWall-1 SmallOffice software tightly integrated with an optimized hardware subsystem and secure hardened operating system. Responding to valuable customer feedback, Nokia has architected the IP71 appliance to address the specific needs of the distributed remote office. The IP71 has no moving parts and is therefore silent, is 1.4" high, 7" deep, 7" wide, and weighs 1.2 lbs, thus designed for convenience and reliability in the remote office environment. It also comes equipped with a Wizard management tool to simplify the configuration process and includes SSH-2 support providing strong encryption of all management traffic whether local or remote.

"Networks are only as secure and reliable as their weakest link. With enterprise networks increasingly becoming more distributed, the need to secure those remote sites has become more critical than ever before," said, Bob Brace, vice president, Marketing, Nokia Internet Communications. "Together we are able to deliver unparalleled security appliance solutions that enable our customers to confidently and reliably conduct business, while leveraging their existing investments in training and personnel, ensuring a consistent security policy across their entire enterprise." "We are pleased to see Nokia introduce the IP71 appliance platform with Check Point's VPN-1/FireWall-1 SmallOffice software," said Asheem Chandna, vice president of Business Development and Product Management for Check Point Software Technologies. "The new Nokia IP71 appliance provides an ideal VPN/FW security solution for enterprise remote offices and small to medium businesses."

One of the most critical costs in security and IT is not the equipment and infrastructure, rather the personnel and expertise required to deploy, manage and maintain a secure network. Nokia continues to offer reduced total cost of ownership through a complete, pre-installed, ready to deploy security solution allowing corporations to focus less on installation and more on securely conducting business.

The IP71 combines ease of use with secure remote management and is fully supported by Nokia Horizon Manager version 1.1, making it ideal for the security reseller as well as the managed service provider looking to offer managed VPN services to enterprises. Consistent with the entire IP network security appliance portfolio, the Nokia IP71 is pre-configured and tested for rapid deployment, and is backed by Nokia's world class "First Call-Final Resolution" global services and support.

Availability
The Nokia IP71 will be orderable in the US, Canada, Europe and Japan on August 1, 2001 and will begin shipping in limited quantities by the end of September 2001.
