Team Effort Events: Greatest Paintball Show on Earth Hits Pittsburgh Aug. 1-5

PITTSBURGH, July 16, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- The International Amateur Paintball Open scheduled for Aug. 1-5 is bracing itself for an unprecedented number of worldwide enthusiasts descending on Pittsburgh. Players from Aruba to Turkey are registered to compete. (www.teameffortevents.com)

The tradeshow and tournament will bring together more than 2,500 competitors and manufacturers displaying the latest in Paintball paraphernalia at the largest Trade Show in the industry, with almost two acres under a tent. A new Extreme vendor's tent will feature all-day entertainment from snake ladies to tattoo artists and body piercers.

"It's been estimated that well over a million dollars comes into the retail community during tournament week," said Debra Dion Krischke of Team Effort Events. "Our normal 3-ring circus has mushroomed into a 12-ring spectacle! With bleachers, netted arenas and food concessions, literally anyone can enjoy stopping out to watch some action and check out all the activities," said Krischke.

Started in 1981 in the woods of New Hampshire, paintball has been enjoying an incredible entry into the mainstream recreational market. From a backwoods game of tag, it has blossomed into a $1.2 billion a year industry. Technology seems to have no limits and semi-automatic guns can range from $49.95 to $1,700.

On Aug. 1, an industry conference will hold "New Products on Parade," where the latest markers and accessories will be unveiled.

With more and more teenagers getting involved, safety is a focus and has resulted in a universal industry push to guide younger players from unsupervised backyard play to legitimate playing fields.

Along with junior birthday parties, paintball has made solid headway into the bachelor party market. Corporations have long been using the game throughout the country for a novel team-building experience during sales meetings.
