Nokia Announces Addition of New, Highest Performing IP Network Security Platform

(CeBIT, HANOVER, Germany – March 21, 2001) Nokia (NYSE: NOK) today introduced the Nokia IP530 Network Security Platform, a high performance security appliance for medium to large enterprise networks. The Nokia IP530 is the newest member of Nokia's market-leading family of network security appliances, tightly integrating Check Point Software Technologies’ (NASDAQ:CHKP) VPN-1/FireWall-1 software and designed to help corporations ensure their networks are secure, scalable and reliable.

The Nokia IP530 is a next generation IP Network Security platform, which means increased speed and functionality, delivering impressive levels of secure throughput. The Nokia IP530 offers firewall traffic of approximately 500 megabits per second (Mbps) as a result of its dual bus structure. It comes equipped with four integrated 10/100 Ethernet ports, two type II PCMCIA slots for modem support and three CPCI network interface card slots. It also has an internal slot for a VPN hardware accelerator card.

The Nokia IP530 platform is designed for enterprise customers who require the highest level of throughput without compromising security. Consistent with the entire family, the Nokia IP530 is pre-configured and tested for rapid deployment, supports a comprehensive suite of IP routing protocols, and is backed by Nokia’s world class “First Call - Final Resolution” global service and support.

Enterprises of all sizes continue to expand their networks, their means of accessing them, and are increasingly leveraging the endless possibilities of the Internet for connection. The productivity gains and benefits of e-commerce are irresistible, but have clearly heightened the need for a sound network security solution to protect valuable resources. According to IDC, penetration of the large and medium business firewall market in 2000 was about 50 percent, with a total market of approximately 243,000 firewalls. IDC also predicts that enterprises already using firewalls will continue to expand their networks, with corresponding greater investments in network security.

"Mission critical applications require uncompromising security, scalability and reliability, all of which the Nokia IP530 provides", said Greg Shortell, vice president of Sales and Marketing, Nokia Internet Communications. "Corporations can dramatically reduce the complexity and total cost of ownership associated with high-performance network security by using Nokia's network security platforms."
In addition, the Nokia IP530 comes equipped with Nokia Network Voyager, a simple and intuitive browser based remote management interface. The Nokia IP530 is also fully supported by Nokia Horizon Manager, Nokia's secure software image management tool. Nokia Horizon Manager dramatically reduces the time and costs associated with deploying new software, service packs and updates, and allows customers the ability to track, backup and restore images while maintaining an accurate software inventory of each Nokia IP Network Security Platforms.
