Nokia Revolutionizes the “Virtual” Office

Nokia today launched another world first - the Nokia MW1352, a cutting-edge DSL connectivity gateway - for professionals who need an uncomplicated solution that enables easy access to data with the freedom of mobility.

The Nokia MW1352, an integrated IP connectivity gateway which revolutionizes the "virtual" office and offers a truly mobile experience with its always-on high bandwidth connection and the added convenience of non-wired PCs and laptops. It is the first complete solution to combine SHDSL (Single Line High-Speed DSL) and wireless mobility (WLAN) with IPSec (Internet protocol security). This user-friendly solution is designed for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), small office/home office (SOHO), companies with remote offices and corporate telecommuters. Users can move about their home/office with uninterrupted Internet and email access.

SHDSL is a state of the art, newly standardized symmetric DSL technology that enables rapid data transfer over longer distances. SHDSL, supporting symmetric 64kbps to 2.3 Mbps over copper wires, is an ideal access solution for applications that require high upstream and downstream bandwidth.

Nokia’s MW1352 enables a secure always-on DSL connection for private communication over IP networks. Network encryption is applied through IPSec (Internet protocol security), a set of open Internet standards-based network layer security technology. IPSec encryption is seamless to the end-user and is especially important for secure LAN office connections within a virtual private network (VPN).

“Nokia’s MW1352 is an exciting new DSL connectivity gateway - for professionals who need an uncomplicated solution that enables easy access to data with the freedom of mobility,” said Mark Slater, Vice President of Sales, Nokia Broadband Systems. “Multiple users can access the same SHDSL connection simultaneously, without adding new infrastructure wiring. Nokia’s integrated IP connectivity gateways have revolutionized the virtual office environment, providing mobile flexibility for working in today's fast paced businesses.”

Nokia’s MW1352 functions as a high quality (high-end) bridge or router providing both WLAN and Ethernet 10base-T data interface. Users experience greater productivity by eliminating dial-up and network wiring. Through the Ethernet connection, multiple PCs and laptops can link to share files, servers, faxes, printers and other peripherals. Users can roam up to 65 to 164 feet (20-50 meters) within their home and office.

The Nokia MW1352 is the latest addition to its suite of integrated IP connectivity gateway solutions for SMEs, SOHO and professional telecommuters. Nokia is excited to introduce the latest technology providing entertainment, information and media delivery (video, audio or multimedia) throughout the home and office. Utilizing the existing broadband infrastructure, Nokia enables current and future multimedia services with a seamless transition from home to office and beyond.
