Tele Danmark's Diax Acquires UMTS License in Switzerland


DENMARK, Dec. 6, 2000 (PRIMEZONE) -- Today, diAx acquired a UMTS license in Switzerland. The price paid for the license is CHF 50m (DKK 245m).

Tele Danmark agreed to acquire 70% of diAx in November and increase its stake in sunrise to 89%. Tele Danmark is planning to merge the two companies into one and creating an undisputed number-two telecom operator in Switzerland.

Tele Danmark is a Danish-based European communication solutions provider organized as five main business units; Communication Solutions, Mobile, Internet, Cable TV and Directories. Tele Danmark is the principal provider of communications services in Denmark and holds significant interests in a range of communications companies across Northern and Continental Europe. Tele Danmark A/S was privatized in 1994. Today SBC Communications owns 41.6% of the shares and the remainder are held by individual and institutional shareowners all over the world.
