SafetyCable Nominated Product of the Year

NORWAY, Dec. 5, 2000 (PRIMEZONE) -- SafetyCable has been nominated "product of the year" in a prestigious award competition put on annually by the Norwegian computer magazine Kapital DATA.

Kapital DATA has evaluated hundreds of brand new and soon-to-be launched IT products, and has nominated a number of these, divided into different categories. SafetyCable stands out among nine other candidates in the international category for security products as the only product that physically prevents theft of electronic equipment. The other nine products in this category consist mainly of virus detecting software and firewalls.

Selecting the winner for each category is an interactive process between the editorial staff at Kapital DATA and the magazine's readers, who are invited to submit a vote. At the end of January the best products will be awarded and the results published in Kapital DATA's February edition.

A commentator at Kapital DATA notes that there are disturbingly many companies that offer only very limited protection against computer crime. The existing security devices today consist mostly of a simple firewall and an anti-virus program. On the upside of this sad fact, the magazine describes SafetyCable as a new and smart Norwegian innovation that protects electronic equipment against theft.

We are honored to accept this nomination, and we feel it is an important recognition of SafetyCable, says Chief Executive Knut Foseide of SafetyCable. We have been working very hard for years developing this product, and most people quite frankly didn't understand what the hell we were doing. We are now experiencing an increased level of public awareness and recognition for this invention. This recognition also adds fuel to our rockets when we now launch our product fully into the market, underlines Foseide, ready for take-off.

Product-information: SafetyCable model 1 is a multifunction power-cable, with integrated 112 dB theft alarm, surge protector and power failure indicator. All electronics is built into the power-cables contacts, and is controlled by a micro-controller. The micro-controller sets of the alarm if the cable is unplugged from the PC or the mains, or if the cable is cut or any other attempts to "hot-wire" it. The theft warning cable is smart -- it differentiates between attempted theft and regular power failure, and with it's external loop it also protects the HDD, CPU, RAM, etc against theft. All functions are regulated with a small keyboard on one of the plugs.

SafetyCable model 2 has, in addition to model 1's features, a cable lock made from steel that locks the alarm to the PC's power supply, which can only be removed after first inputting the correct code. This safeguards the PC against break-ins, even "Hit & Run" - theft.
