Unity Wireless Corporation Signs Agreement with AT&T Wireless

BELLEVUE, WA, March 6, 2000 (PRIMEZONE) -- Unity Wireless Corporation (a dba of Sonic Systems Corporation) of Delaware (NQB:ZSON) announces the signing of a Marketing Alliance Agreement with AT&T Wireless Services Inc. a division of AT&T Corp. (NYSE:T). The Agreement provides for sales lead sharing as well as joint marketing efforts targeting potential customers of both Unity Wireless and AT&T Wireless.

Unity Wireless has developed a line of products designed to connect the "Wireless IP" network, as provided by AT&T, to intelligent devices in a variety of applications.

AT&T Wireless Services provides a CDPD (cellular digital packet data) network, which extends the Internet Protocol to wireless devices. Using the AT&T services, Unity Wireless' MPIC (Multi-Purpose Interface Controller) products permit virtually any intelligent serial device to easily connect to the CDPD network, and thus to the Internet.

"AT&T's Wireless IP provides secure and near-instant wireless communications between devices, using standard software protocols" says Tom Dodd, President of Unity Wireless. "Now, with the MPIC products from Unity Wireless, people can really put that network to work with both new and legacy systems."

The first implementation of the MPIC technology has been designed to facilitate traffic control and help improve the flow of vehicle traffic on roadways, using existing traffic control equipment. The MPIC products can be utilized in applications including intersection controllers, traffic counters, variable message signs and on-ramp metering systems.

In an intersection application, the MPIC can allow the micro-controller installed at every signalized intersection, to communicate with a central traffic management computer. This functionality allows traffic engineers to wirelessly monitor and control the flow of traffic by synchronizing the operation of the traffic signals, adapt signal timing to changing traffic demands, and more quickly report signal failures to maintenance. There are over 300,000 signalized intersections in North America, with another 15,000 new controllers installed annually.

"AT&T Wireless Services have been exceptionally supportive of Unity's sales efforts over the past several months, and this marketing alliance agreement formalizes that working relationship" said Dodd. "Every time Unity sells an MPIC product, the customer needs a service contract, and AT&T Wireless is a preferred service provider. Together we provide the whole solution."

Unity's MPIC products have been designed on a general-purpose platform with potential applications in several markets. Additional markets being pursued include point-of-sale (POS), security, industrial control, telemetry and SCADA applications. Dodd commented "Our MPIC is highly adaptable and can work in multiple applications, and AT&T Wireless can provide the coverage, quality and service our customers expect."
