Oak Street Funding® Participates in Indy Honor Flight

INDIANAPOLIS, May 02, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Oak Street Funding (www.oakstreetfunding.com), a First Financial Bank company, encourages employee participation in charitable events and activities as part of its company culture. Most recently, Oak Street employees have participated in three Indy Honor Flights which consist of one-day trips transporting WWII, Korea and Vietnam wartime veterans to Washington, D.C. to see their memorials, in-flight mail calls and elaborate homecoming celebrations upon their return.

Indy Honor Flight is a non-profit organization created solely to honor Indiana’s veterans for their service and sacrifice. Oak Street Funding employees have played and continue to play a role in these special one-day events.

Bill Nicholson, Executive Director of Sales & Marine Corp veteran, first introduced Indy Honor Flight to Oak Street after accompanying one of the veterans as a Guardian on the flight to and from Washington D.C. “There is really no way to describe this trip of a lifetime for these veterans,” explained Nicholson. “From visiting their war memorials, to mail call on the flight home – where each veteran receives a package of letters from friends, family & the community thanking them for their service, to the surprise homecoming celebration upon their return, I have never taken part in such an emotional and meaningful way to honor our troops.”

Other Oak Street employees also participate in the Indy Honor Flight. Some write letters or have their children’s school classes write letters for the surprise mail call portion of the trip. Others have donated their time as members of the “ground crew” who coordinate the spectacular homecoming the veterans experience upon their return to Indianapolis.

“Oak Street Funding is active in many community events,” stated Rick Dennen, Founder and CEO of Oak Street Funding. “Indy Honor Flight participants always come back touched and emotional from this every year.  It is only one of the outstanding ways we are able to give back to our community and especially to those who have made sacrifices that allow us to enjoy our many freedoms."

Oak Street Funding will be participating in two additional Indy Honor Flights in 2019.
