NACD Southern California Chapter and USC Marshall to Co-Sponsor Family Business Program Forum on October 8, 2015

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 17, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Southern California Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors ("NACD SoCal") and USC Marshall Family Business Program today announced that it will co-sponsor a family forum focused on creating successful, multi-generational, family businesses.

To be held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at The Jonathan Club in downtown Los Angeles, the forum will address some of the critical issues in creating successful, multi-generational, family-owned businesses. Topics include:

  • Preparing for a child to enter the business
  • Transitioning from the founder to the next gen
  • Governance of the business and the family
  • Avoiding the wealth evaporation trap to ensure that wealth created in the business transfers to realized wealth for the family

The forum will feature:

  • Dean James Ellis of the USC Marshall School of Business
  • Dr. Lee Hausner, family business expert
  • George Isaac, Founder and Managing Principal of George Issac Consulting
  • William Hawfield, Co-Founder of The Board Group
  • Other subject matter experts in the field

"Creating a successful business is difficult, and fostering an effective family unit is also challenging," said Ken Ude, Director of USC Marshall Family Business Program. "Doing both in the context of a multi-generational, successful, family business can be overwhelming -- yet approximately 85 percent of all new jobs in the United States are in family-owned businesses. Our upcoming forum is sure to be an essential learning experience for both seasoned business owners and next gen small business leaders alike. We hope that our guests will enjoy hearing from experts in the field and sharing their own experiences with other family business owners."

This forum will also serve as the launch for the USC Marshall Family Business Program. For information and to register to attend this forum go to www.marshall.usc.edu/familybusiness.
