STOCKHOLM, Sweden, May 16, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Nordea has now passed the 3 million mark in the number of e-customers, and the aim this year is to raise their numbers to 3.3 million.
With its 3 million net-banking customers, Nordea now ranks on a par with the two leading American banks, Bank of America and Wells Fargo. However, Nordea is the world leader in terms of how extensively its electronic services are used.
"For us, more important than the actual numbers is the fact that customers increasingly use our easy-to-use and secure net services for their banking and insurance affairs as well as for equity trading," said Bo Harald, head of Electronic Banking.
"Currently, the number of log-ons is almost 9 million and the number of invoices paid over 10 million each month, more than anywhere else in the world. We estimate that Nordea's customers will pay 120 million invoices via the Internet this year and the number of log-ons will exceed 100 million."
Almost 100,000 people use Nordea's mobile services in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Latvia and Poland. Finnish customers can also use Nordea's versatile WAP services with GPRS phones. The number of log-ons to Nordea's mobile services is around 300,000 per month including account enquiries by SMS messages.
"The use of mobile phones for banking and other financial transactions will probably increase both in the Nordic countries and globally within the next few years," predicts Bo Harald. "Mobile payments will gain popularity as the phones and services become cheaper and more user- friendly."
Close to 700 merchants are present on Nordea's pan-Nordic electronic marketplace, Solo Market. All in all, Nordea has 2,000 e-business customers.
Nordea's 3 millionth net-banking customer is Danish Poul Hansen from the town of Ebeltoft, which is situated north-east of Aarhus in Jutland.
